Taxes and fees

Setting up the tax rate, standing charges and a minimum charge for your documents.

Two settings pages decide what gets added to the line items on a quote, job or invoice.

Taxes

Settings → Taxes lists your tax rates (GST, HST, a combined provincial rate). Mark one as the default and it is applied to every new document; you can pick a different rate on any document. Line items can be marked tax-exempt individually.

Prices can be tax-exclusive (tax added on top of the line total) or tax-inclusive (the price already contains the tax and the document shows how much of it is tax). Set the default under Settings → Documents; each document can override it.

Fees

Settings → Fees holds standing charges that go on documents besides the line items: a travel fee, a materials charge, or anything you name. Each fee has a default amount and switches for whether it is shown to the client, whether it is taxed, and whether it counts toward commission.

A minimum charge is a floor, not a fee — if the line items add up to less, the document is raised to the minimum.

Different amounts by area

If you serve several regions, Regions lets you set the fees and the minimum charge per region and per city, and attach a price list to each. The property's city decides which amounts a document gets. Without regions, every document uses the default amounts from the Fees page.

Changing a fee on one document

The totals on any document can be edited: change a fee's amount or the minimum charge for that document only. The document keeps your amounts even if the defaults change later.
